Riding Fast with Liz
Halliday
Liz
Halliday is a 27 year old native Californian, now
based in Surry England. While most individuals would be satisfied excelling at
one sport, Liz excels at two: International equestrian in Three-Day
Eventing and international race car driver, with the
dual goals of making the 2008 Olympic equestrian team and winning the
prestigious Le mans 24-hour endurance race.
When
not jetting from one sport venue to another, Liz follows a rigorous workout
routine which will find her working with her personal trainer three days a week
for about two hours. The balance of the week, she rides her three
eventing horses and runs, skulls, or kick-boxes to
improve her cardiovascular conditioning as she believes that the more physically
fit she is determines how mentally prepared she is to compete in either sport. “Both
sports are high adrenalin, high reaction, technical, and dangerous and both
require full body fitness as well as mental fitness” Liz adds.
Although her hectic schedule leaves her little time to relax and ensures that
she has virtually no social life due to the fact that both the racing and
eventing seasons run parallel, she is passionate in pursuing both careers and
would not dream of giving one up. For 2006, Liz has three victories in the
American Le Mans Series LMP2 class, giving her a career total of six, the most
wins for a female in series history. In eventing she has recently acquired a
gifted young horse, Fox, who she believes can realistically help elevate her to
Olympic Gold. |
